Is the term 'technology' over generalized

Or is it just me? Overall I have always related the word to computer's. It's new to me that people refer to there clothes as technology. I can see the relation, but aren't we further ahead in times to generalize the word in that way? I can see it going both ways. I have been thinking a lot that words are not as meaningful now-a-days. I thought back to a time when I was a child and over hearing my mom and sister talk about 'dying' their hair. I remember thinking as my 5 or 6 year old self "Why would they be dieing their hair" as in like ,killing their hair. The confusion has scarred me for life{just joking) but I feel like throughout the years as the English vocabulary has grown, the strength, or meaningfulness of words grew less. Just another way to complex life and challenge the mind. That can be looked at as good or bad but I'm just thinking there are a lot of mixed up individuals and I think that it all stems back to the way you store the meaning of all the words you use in your head. The complexity of technology is like the complexity of our brains. I guess that's how I'll tie this up in relating this post to technology.
