That is a factor of the Orthodox Jewish religion. I'm not an expert about it or anything, but I did happen to see on more than one occasion group's of people of their religious affiliation on a Sunday practicing this.
My friend's whom I stayed with part of my time in Long Beach, California, filled me in with the info. I don't mean to affend anybody but the way they dressed was different. It was particularly men I seen, and children. The men wear their beards long, and a round shaped cap on their head. They stood out to me the first time I seen them which was usually in one area of Long Beach and I was curious so I asked my friend who they were. He told me Orthodox Jews and that it is against their religion to use technology on Sunday's.
So that's why there would be many of them riding their bikes, or walking during Sunday afternoon's. I wanted to hear all about it and he told me " Really! They don't use their stove's to cook, they won't watch T.V or use their computer's, they won't drive their cars or use, or do anything that has to do with technology."
I didn't have to much of an opinion about it at first , it's actually pretty respectfull when I think about it. I'm 23 and I grew up with technology as if it was a natural resource, but technolgy is definetely not.
It interested me to learn about this religious practice. To just take a break once a week and make the day all about family and living...naturally
- I'm sure there are a lot of people who would refuse.

How does one not use technology for religous reason or for any reason? The invention of the wheel was technology, thus the bicycle is technology. In fact the outhouse in its time was considered technology. I might be streaching it to the limit buti feel safe in saying cloths can be viewed as technology. one of Webster's definitions is "a capability given by the practical application of knowledge" I can sumize that weather I use the kitchen sink and a glass to fetch water or scooping it up from a stream with a bowled shaped rock I'm using technology.
Yeah but when I think of technology I think of , electricity, airplanes , and satelite dishes in space. Cooking some steak on a charcoal grill while your family plays ball I dont think really involves technology...I don''t know that's how I see it. If we were to break every little thing down that was conducted or created by man including a t-shirt and call it technology, that seems to over generalize the catergory.
very interesting Hollie, Glad to know a differant side of you. hugs D. And now I know what brian is doing at lunch every day.lol
