To be a professional, is to have proper training in a desired field and to take that position seriously. To make sure the job required is sought out. To have tasks to manage and to do the best of ability, to responsibly, handle and complete those tasks. 

Yes, I myself am a professional in training. I am not a professional yet, but with the right training that is the goal I would like to achieve; obtain a professional position.

To be a professional I would say the most important trait to own is being responsible, but there are many other traits that are necessary, such as being motivated and driven to a cause.
